A Luxurious Box Arrives via Furusato Nozei

After wondering what to choose for this year's Furusato Nozei, I finally decided on Nagasaki Hojikan's 'Oxtail Curry Gorotto.' I wanted to enjoy a little luxury that I wouldn't normally buy.

When it arrived, I was surprised by the thickness and heavy weight of the box. It gave off a completely different aura from the retort curries you see at the supermarket, and the black packaging was incredibly stylish. It wouldn't look out of place lined up among high-end gifts in a department store basement.

Just holding this rich curry, which costs over 2,000 yen per box, got me excited, thinking, 'This is definitely going to be delicious.'

Extraordinary Volume! The Preparation Before Eating is Also a Fun Time

I did a double-take when I looked at the back of the box. The net weight is a whopping 350g! A normal retort curry is usually about 180g, so this is almost double the size!

I boiled water in a pot and slowly heated it for about 15 minutes. Normally, I'd be thinking, 'Isn't it done yet?' during the wait, but today it was an important preparation time for a delicious feast. Listening to the simmering sound, my stomach wouldn't stop growling. The fact that it can be stored at room temperature for a long time is also a great point for a foodie's stockpile.

Boom on the Plate! An Overwhelming Chunk of Meat and Turmeric Rice

When I opened the warmed pouch and slowly poured it onto the plate... with a 'thud!' sound, an unbelievably sized piece of oxtail meat dove out. I even found myself saying out loud, 'No way, that's too big!'

For this special occasion, I put in a little extra effort and cooked some turmeric rice. The bright yellow rice paired with the glossy, deep brown roux... I was almost knocked out just by the appearance.

The umami and sweet fat of the oxtail are fully melted into the roux, instantly turning the atmosphere of the dining room into a Western-style restaurant. It's absolutely amazing to feel this excited while staying at home!

Meat That Falls Apart with a Spoon and Magical Separate Spices

Time to eat! When I pressed my spoon against the large oxtail meat, it fell off the bone effortlessly without applying any pressure. Bringing it to my mouth, the melting tenderness and rich umami spread out, making me smile involuntarily.

What impressed me even more were the separately packaged spices. Sprinkling the 'cumin' and 'garam masala' halfway through releases a light, refreshing aroma, allowing for a brilliant flavor change.

At first, you enjoy the sweetness of the onions and the richness of the bouillon, and in the second half, you enjoy the sharp kick of the spices. Despite the large 350g volume, I eagerly devoured it down to the very last bite.

For a Weekend Reward Dinner or a Small Gift

The satisfaction after finishing the meal was exactly like that of having a full-course dinner. Just sharing one pouch between a couple and adding a salad would make for a splendid dinner.

It's a bit too luxurious for an everyday meal, but that's exactly why choosing it for Furusato Nozei was a huge success. It's perfect for days when you want to refresh yourself with delicious food or as a little weekend treat.

Because the meat is so incredibly tender, it would definitely be appreciated as a gift for parents or a small token of gratitude for someone who has helped you. It was a wonderful encounter with a curry that brings a delicious surprise to everyday life.

A Heart-Fulfilling Curry Experience That Makes Time at Home Special

Nagasaki Hojikan's 'Oxtail Curry Gorotto' was truly a luxurious curry for adults, where you can enjoy an amazingly large, fall-apart tender piece of oxtail meat and the aroma of authentic spices. A delicious and happy time that instantly brightens up the usual dining table. I'll probably repeat this for my next reward day.
